- Do not ask me for a resume without establishing a relationship with me. In this respect a cold e-mail, no matter how long and detailed it is, does not qualify as a relationship.
- Do not become impolite if I politely refuse and ask for a more detailed job description.
- Do not say or imply that the job might be “too senior for [me]” because I refused your initial request for a resume.

A stupid exchange
January 9th, 2008 1 Comment
I just had the most unprofessional exchange with a recruiter in e-mail.
Recruiter: Good Morning. I ran across your information and I wanted to speak with you regarding a current opportunity I have. Please give me a call when you have a moment.
Me: Sorry, not interested. Thanks!
Recruiter: So you are not interested in speaking with me?
Me: Was I unclear?
Recruiter: Why do you have to be a jerk? Its ridiculous you get to act that way.
Me: I simply refused to call you. That’s not being a jerk. I am not interested in another opportunity at this time. No offense intended. If some is taken, that’s your problem.
Finis
If I get another reply, unless it’s an apology, I’m going to copy the recruiter’s boss/call the office.
