Today at Costco, Hanne and I made an interesting discovery.
It is our custom when near books of photographs of cats, to look for Egyptian Maus or Egyptian Mau sections to see pretty cats. Many of you know that we have the honor to tend to our own Egyptian Mau (“Fez”) and that we and most visitors dote scandalously on her.
About a year and a half ago, I uploaded various pictures to the Wikimedia commons and licensed them according to the GNU Free Documentation License and the Creative Commons v. 2.5 Attribution Deed, including one of Fez.
While at Costco, we found a book titled Cats, by Alice Buckland (ISBN 1844061013 and which is apparently only listed by Amazon for sale by 2 Amazon sellers). Leafing through it, we found the Egyptian Mau section, and behold! A cropped version of the same picture of Fez.
Now I’m not one to complain too much and honestly I didn’t check the book to see whether it did in fact give credit (required by the CC deed), but I rather hoped the picture would be put to nobler use.
To whit:

100% freaky deaky
ps – did you buy the book?!
No, I didn’t buy the book. I figured for $15 I could probably get a blow-up of a better quality photo of Fez that I liked better.
Also, the damned book was huge. I have no idea where we’d actually put it.
