IBARW 3 – Links to my various related entries from last year

This summary/links post is toward providing more contributions to IBARW 3, but may be interesting for my readers as well. Also, it’s helping me declutter my tags, so that’s also good.

Links and summaries after the cut.

Huh. Not as many as I thought. Oh well!

In chronological order (earliest to latest):

April 22, 2008 – Tim Wise – A Caucasian Anti-Racist Activist and Speaker
Lots of links to and about this guy, and in the comments, some discussion of the dynamic of having white (in my discussion, “pink”) men do the anti-racist activism for me/us (POCs).

April 30, 2008 – Interesting kerfuffles continue at Seal Press
Talking about the racism issue in one of Seal Press’ recent publication, links to other commentary about the issue and about how Seal Press’ editors handled both the initial criticisms and the follow-on discussion. Hint: They did not handle it well, but there was an optimistic end-game, I guess.

May 26, 2008 – This year in politics, we get to find out just how racist all the Liberals/Dems are
Talking about the Daily Kos diarist who photoshopped Michelle Obama on an old book/pulp cover showing her being terrorized by a KKK member.

May 27, 2008 – Actually, I am going to say this again
Talking about the Right Answer when you are white and are tempted to say “I’m not racist!”.

May 30, 2008 – Privilege 201: My answer to a straight white guy about privilege
I reposted to this blog a response I wrote on MetaFilter to a guy asking about what other privileges might be in that (in)famous backpack.

July 16th, 2008 – Dear White People…
In which I write about the stunning lack of bridge building (by white people) vis a vis effective communication with POC.

July 17th, 2008 – Lost my way? Help me find it.
In which I write about feeling helpless to do coalition-building with white folks who would like to make racism all my fault.

July 30th, 2008 – Us vs. Them
In which I write about the use of rhetoric in my essays and what I intend by it, as well as in general how I feel about the availability of allies when I need them.
